Hoodia Gordonii What Is It?

Hoodia is a weight loss product that has taken the nation by storm, but it still remains a product that most people are unfamiliar with. This has led to many asking the pertinent question “What is hoodia?” The short answer to this is that hoodia is a cactus plant that grows in Africa that when ingested will curb appetite.

Hoodia is a potent appetite suppressant that has been proven successful. Asking “What is hoodia?” does not really explain why hoodia is so popular these days. So, instead of merely asking “What is hoodia?” one should ask “Why hoodia?”

The Pre-Hoodia Era

In previous generations, prescription and over the counter (OTC) drugs were issued for those looking to lose weight. The results of these products were nothing short of disastrous.

In the 1950’s, many of the prescription pills were nothing more than amphetamines and while they did suppress appetite and yield a great deal of weight loss success, these pills were addictive and the root cause of a number of health problems such as heart disease among others.

The “softer” OTC products that were common in the 1970’s and 1980’s were also somewhat successful, but they were also causing strokes in a number of consumers and certain ingredients in the product were removed.

The end result was that the potency of these products was drastically reduced. As such, there was a desire in the marketplace for a successful product, but none had developed nor discovered until the advent of hoodia.

Additionally, hoodia does not affect the heart or the brain in the manner that the other products formerly did. Because of this, the advent of strokes and heart attacks in hoodia users is non-existent. What is hoodia? Safe!

Proper Use of Hoodia

Now that you know “what is hoodia” and can compare it to other forms of appetite suppressants, there needs to be an understanding as to what is required for proper use of hoodia. Basically, if you are eating junk food and take hoodia and end up eating less junk food, you will never reach your potential.

Any diet that you undertake should be one of low fat and low refined sugar. Hoodia should be used as an aid to eliminate hunger cravings due to the reduction of calories. Hoodia, however, is not a miracle cure for obesity. It is simply a tool and an aid and should be primarily used that particular manner.
